MP3 Player Security...
Here is a question we received yesterday from John via e-mail about our MP3 Player. It was a great question so i am including it here in case anyone else has the same question...
I currently use your Flash MP3 player for my online radio station. Let me first say it is an excellent piece of software and works great. My question is this. I am streaming some sensitive MP3 files that CANNOT be downloaded separately from the flash player stream. Currently, a user can see the song title or view the source to figure out the destination of the MP3 file, then download it as they please. Is there a way to prevent this? I've tried changing the CHMOD permissions of the files, but then the flash player cannot read the files either. Is there a way to encode the MP3 filename or lock the MP3 file to prevent download? This is crucial. Thanks for your help!
RE:MP3 Player Security...
We answered this question by writing another FAQ. In it, a couple of different ideas for a solution to security. Moving the location of your mp3s is the easiest way. Do this by setting the MP#_BIN variable to another folder location. Chmod was a good idea too, we added the proper way to do this and even updated the mp3player to include this option. htaccess is another way which is explained more in the FAQ topic. Hmm...
However, "if" someone wanted to, they could record the play using the audio recorder that comes with Windows. Quality would, nonetheless, be lost streaming into *.wav format.
RE:Hmm...
Recording the sound is a downside of every form of streaming both audio and video. If this bothers you then you should simply cut off the song half-way through and stream that instead.
